Delta Community enact law to tackle indiscriminate Refuse disposal, imposes fine

Kurutie Federated Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom,Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State has enacted a law to tackle indiscriminate disposal of refuse within the Community.
The Community which host the Nigeria Maritime University has commenced enforcement of the law as it imposed a fine of twenty thousand naira on anyone who falls short of the law.
The Community has also placed dustbins at strategic around to address the issue of indiscriminate refuse disposal with a view to keep the environment clean and safe.
In a chat with Our Correspondent,the Financial Secretary of Kurutie Federated Community, Mr. Money in Bernard said the dustbins were placed at strategic locations for disposal of refuse within the area.
Mr. Bernard who was in company of Founder of the The Creek Child Education Foundation, Vivian Pori during this year's children day celebration said the decision was informed at the Community's general meeting when they noticed that there were indiscriminate disposals of dirts and carns.
According to him,"We thought it wise that why not? We can keep our community clean. We also agreed if penalties for people who fail to dispose their dirts properly especially using the dustbins. One of the fines that we placed is that, if you're caught disposing dirts anyhow within the Community, you will be fined the sum of twenty thousand(#20,000)naira. Also, if you're on the way and you take sachet or carn water or drink, instead of holding it to dispose properly, somebody catches you disposing it on the way, you're also liable to that same fine of twenty thousand(#20,000)naira."
Mr. Bernard that because of the new law, Kurutie Federated Community has taken a new look as enforcement has commenced.
He noted that there's gradual compliance of the law on the side of the people in the land.
While noting that cleanliness is next to Godliness, Mr. Bernard said,the community wants to promote cleanliness saying,"if you're clean within the environment, you will be promoting a healthy environment."
He appealed to the Management of TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited support the initiative by Kurutie Community by providing them with more dustbins in addition to signposts to help create awareness for the people not to throw dirt's indiscriminately within the Community.
"By so doing, when they see the signposts, it gives them a warning. Also,provide us with incarcerator for us to be burning our dirts instead of throwing them in the water because the water also needs to be healthy."
