Federal Government Unveils NINAuth Platform to Revolutionize Digital Identity Verification in Nigeria

In a bold step toward streamlining digital identity management and protecting citizens’ personal data, the Federal Government has launched a new authentication platform, NINAuth, designed to make identity verification faster, safer, and more user-controlled for millions of Nigerians.

The Federal Government has officially approved a new identity verification service developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward a secure and inclusive digital ecosystem.

Announced in Lagos on Tuesday by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, the NIN Authentication Service (NINAuth) is set to become the primary platform for verifying individuals' identities using their National Identification Number (NIN) across all sectors.

In line with a directive from the Presidency, all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are now mandated to adopt the NINAuth platform for all identity confirmation activities. The move is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at strengthening national data integrity and enhancing access to public services.

The NINAuth platform allows identity verification through multiple channels — web portals, mobile applications, and API integrations — giving individuals more control over how their personal data is accessed and shared. The service is equipped with a user consent feature, ensuring that data is not used without explicit permission.

"The launch of NINAuth is a game changer in how identities are managed and verified in Nigeria. It’s designed with privacy and security at its core and puts the power of data control directly in the hands of the people," Adegoke said.

At the heart of the new system is the need to build public trust in digital identity systems. With identity theft and data misuse becoming global concerns, the NINAuth service offers enhanced protection against unauthorized access, giving Nigerians confidence when engaging in both public and private sector services.

The platform supports a wide range of use cases, including:

* SIM registration and replacement
* Passport and visa applications
* Tax documentation
* Financial transactions
* Access to government welfare programs
* Driver’s license applications and renewals

Users benefit from single sign-on access to multiple services, eliminating the need to repeatedly provide identity documents for each transaction.

NINAuth is built to integrate seamlessly with third-party systems via API, enabling real-time verification of NIN records. This not only improves the speed and accuracy of identity checks but also ensures compliance with national identity regulations.

By making identity authentication more accessible and transparent, NIMC hopes to foster a secure digital identity framework that supports development, promotes accountability, and empowers citizens.

The public can now access the NINAuth service and learn more by visiting the official platform at [https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng](https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng).
