Hunger Protest: DST Traditional Rulers Council sues for peace
The Traditional Rulers Council in Delta State has called on all Deltans and the entire nation especially the youths to give peace a chance by shelving the proposed nationwide mass protest against bad government in the country.
In a press statement jointly signed and made available to PEBNEW by the Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Major General Felix Mujakpero (Rtd), Orhue 1, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, 1st Vice Chairman, HRM Pere S.P Luke Kalanama VIII, JP, Pere of Akugbene Mein Kingdom and 2nd Vice Chairman, HRM Obi (Dr) Henry Kikachukwu, JP, Obi - Ubulu-Unor said, while it is agreed that they have the constitutional right as citizens to carry out peaceful protest to demand for good governance whenever there is need for it, but the recent upheaval in Africa-Kenya, Zimbabwe to be precise and other Africa countries, has taught Nigeria lessons hence, it is an appeal to all Deltans' good conscience in particular and the entire nation in general not to be involved in the protest.
Part of the statement reads: "We are quite conscious of the fact that it is the constitutional right of every citizen to carry out peaceful protest demanding for good governance whenever the need arises but the recent up heaval in our own clime particularly Kenya, Zimbabwe etc. has left us with no option but to passionally appeal to the good conscience of all Deltans in particularly and the entire nation in general"
According to the statement, the fact that Nigeria's economy is going through very tough and challenging times as there is hunger in the land, unemployment, and insecurity everywhere in the country, in all these challenges, they appeal for calm saying, both the President and the various State Executives be given sometimes to surmount the challenges to give room for sustainable economic growth.
The statement therefore called on the organizers of the proposed mass protest to kindly dialogue with country's leadership for the overall interest of the nation.
