Jubilation in Delta as COCOSA celebrates 80th anniversary in Effurun,Urges Ex-Students,AY Makun, I go die to identify with alma mater

There was wild jubilation in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State as the College of Commerce Old Students Association,COCOSA on Sunday April 26 celebrated the eightieth (80th) anniversary of the institution. The event held at the Jubilee Centre in Effurun with a call on popular comedians, AY and I do die who graduated from the institution many years ago, to identify with their alma mater. 

The ceremony which was the grand finale,was a reunion for old students of the school who exchanged pleasantries, contacts was well as danced together as a Disc jokey(DJ) thrilled the audience with music especially old school. Awards were presented to the grand patrons and founders of the school during the ceremony. 

In an address, COCOSA National President, High Chief Kolawole Victor Enijuni said some of the challenges COCOSA faces as an alma mater is that most members don't turn up. 

According to him,"We have good numbers of them in Nigeria. We have A.Y and I Go Dye, great comedians who happened to finish from this school. We have the likes of the National Olympic Committee Chairman, Chief Solomon Ogba.He is from this school and many others. 

"The best accountants you have in Nigeria also finished from this school. We have so many of them but they are not identifying with the school and we use this opportunity to call them to identify with their alma mater and the old students so that with them coming together,we can lift the school to greater heights and make it one of the best on history."

High Chief Enijuni noted that College of Commerce, Warri is the oldest school in Warri and environs saying some of the challenges of public schools in Delta State and Nigeria is lack of infrastructures. 


High Chief Enijuni pointed out that the old students have made provisions for chairs and desk during this celebration. Previously,we have also made provisions of computers, uniforms and sport equipment to the school and scholarship to the students amongst other.

High Chief Enijuni also announced that COCOSA launched two hundred million naira(N200m) project fund for a sport podium and the Association's Secretariat. 

"This school is one of the best schools when it comes to sporting activities that's why we deemed it fit to build a sport podium where students and teachers can relax and watch sporting event."

The 80th anniversary of College of Commerce began last week Wednesday with a radio show followed by a novelty football match with Essi College,Warri they won by three goals to two. A rally was also held as within Warri and environs as part of activities marking the celebration in addition with cultural displays with the  students and ex-students. It was also followed up a health talk where those with low sugar were called on to come for sugar test. 

In a remark, the Ovie of Orogun Kingdom, HRM. Andy Osawota Adaka I congratulated members of COCOSA for celebrating their alma mater on its eightieth anniversary. 

The reverred monarch who was a a former Secretary of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development, DESOPADEC Board said,"College of Commerce is one of the best in the country."

Earlier in an address, the Central Planning Committee Chairman of COCOSA 80th anniversary, High Chief Reginald.C. Amadi welcomed the old students, guests and students to the occasion

He said,"I am highly delighted to welcome you all to this historic event of College of Commerce Warri 80th Founders day anniversary celebration."

According to High Chief Amadi,"It's worth and worthy to be celebrated and we all should be proud that we have attainted that height of clocking 80 as an institution we attended that produced us as a people of notable personalities in the society in Warri, Delta State Nigeria and the world at large.

"We celebrating College of Commerce Warri 80th Founders day anniversary will always be referred to as history which I will use this opportunity to appreciate all my fellow Alma Mater members for your resilience and determination, it gives me great comfort and joy in my heart on this our 80th Founders day of our old  School (COLLEGE OF COMMERCE WARRI). 

"This our celebration can also be called Oak JUBILEE Celebration experienced during our live time as we have also celebrated our 75th anniversary five years ago I encourage us to celebrate with all excitement and jollification all-round.

I want us to  know that we are all great Men and Women who are  set to writing our names in the sands of time due to our willingness at all times to show that zeal and passion, no matter how little we contributed to make sure the 80th Anniversary is held.

"I  appeal to you all to cooperate with the Committee members in ensuring a hitch free celebration devoid of all rancour save those of putting the round pegs into round holes. No doubt, everyone is going to have a fulfilled day during the 5-Day event with lined up of Activ1ities filled with history, fun, Jokes etc.

"Let me also use this medium to loud  all our members in diaspora,  commend and welcome you once again back home to the Oil City of Warri  to have a feelings of the good Old Days of Warri after many years, and I wish you a safe sojourn as you travel  back always in your mind and display it that College of Commerce Warri is the Oldest Secondary School in Warri and its environs and be proud about it.

"I encourage us especially our distinguished guests to support us in our endowment fund raising in giving back to our Alma Mater and having a better and permanent structure for our gatherings and meetings while discussing forward of our Citadel of learning College of Commerce Warri our golden germ".

High point of the event was the cutting of the 80th anniversary cake by COCOSA members led by the National President, High Chief Kolawole Victor Enijuni who was flanked by High Chief Reginald Amadi amongst others.
