Abducted Benue bus passengers regain freedom
All 13 remaining passengers abducted from an 18-seater Benue Links bus last Wednesday along the Makurdi-Otukpo road by suspected armed herdsmen have regained their freedom.
Details surrounding their rescue have not yet been made public by the authorities, however, sources indicate that the victims were freed in the early hours of Sunday.
It was gathered that a joint security operation involving soldiers and police personnel led to the successful rescue mission.
The passengers were reportedly held captive for about three days following the attack on the bus while en route to Otukpo.
Security operatives were said to have intensified efforts in the area in the days leading up to their rescue Sunday morning.
Following their release, the victims were immediately evacuated for urgent medical care.
They are currently receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo.
