Oborevwori Directs Political Appointees to Resign Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed all political appointees seeking to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their positions on or before March 31, 2026.
The directive was contained in an official statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kingsley Eze Emu, who noted that the decision aligns with the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
According to the statement, the resignation requirement applies to all categories of political appointees intending to participate in party primaries or seek nomination for any elective office in the forthcoming elections.
Those affected include Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers, Directors-General, Executive Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants to the Governor, as well as all other political appointees in the state.
The government further directed that all affected officials must submit their formal resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government on or before the stipulated deadline.
It added that appointees are expected to hand over their duties to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior career officer in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The statement urged all concerned officials to comply strictly with the directive to ensure a smooth transition in line with electoral guidelines.
