JUST IN: Tompolo honoured with Doctorate degree at Edwin Clark University

Edwin Clark University, Delta State, has conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Laws (LL.D) on High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, aka Tomopolo, in recognition of his contributions to peacebuilding and education.

PEBNEWS reports that Tompolo played a decisive role in establishing the Nigeria Maritime University, NMU, Mieka Diving Institute in Kurutie provided the initial take-off campus for the university in 2014. When attempts arose to scrap the university, he intervened to safeguard its future - demonstrating his deep commitment to educational growth in the Niger Delta.

The prestigious award was accepted on his behalf by Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Registrar of Maritime University, Okerenkoko, during the university's 4th, 5th, 6th, & 7th Convocation Ceremony.

In receiving the award, Dr. Bebenimibo said, "By boss would've love to be here in person, because of the respect he has for the founder and our father, Senator Dr. E.K Clark and his family. But due to circumstances beyond his control, he couldn't come.

"However, he actually extended his warm greetings to the university management, the students, and also to congratulate the university and students for the combined convocation ceremony. Once again, thank you." He stated.

Recalls that Nigeria Maritime University had November 2023 conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honouris Causa) of Philosophy of Education on Tomopolo.
