Retired Delta Judge Found Dead at Home as Security Guard Disappears

A retired Delta State High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, has been found dead under suspicious circumstances in her Asaba residence with one of her security guards now on the run.

The shocking incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday night at her home behind The Pointer Newspapers in the Delta State capital. Her family discovered the tragedy on Monday morning.

Confirming the development, the victim’s brother, Ogbueshi Godfrey Okogwu, said the family strongly suspects murder.

“My eldest sister was murdered in her house on Sunday night. We only received the news on Monday morning,” he told The Pointer, “We presume the incident happened during the night.”

A major red flag in the investigation is the disappearance of the night security guard, who has not been seen since the incident. The morning guard reportedly arrived to find the gate wide open and the premises unsecured.

“He said he just sat there. Sat there doing what? I do not know,” the grieving brother lamented, questioning the conduct of the guards on duty.

The house was said to have been ransacked, with early findings suggesting the jurist may have been tied up before her death.

The family has already provided police with details of the private security company responsible for the guards.

Police have since detained the morning guard and invited the security company’s owner for interrogation. It remains unclear whether the person has appeared before investigators.

Confirming the incident to journalists in Warri, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said: “We have two suspects in custody, while one of the security is at large.”

As investigations progress, the family is urging the authorities to ensure a thorough probe and bring all those responsible to justice.

“Only God knows what truly happened,” Okogwu added. “We await the outcome of police investigations.”
