The Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Albert Akpomudje, has emerged as the 14th Ohworode of the ancient Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Akpomudje, who until now served as the Otota (Traditional Prime Minister) of the kingdom, will be formally crowned on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Otorere-Olomu, marking the beginning of a new era for one of Urhoboland’s oldest monarchies.

A grand reception is scheduled to follow immediately after the coronation at the royal palace, opposite the Magistrate Court, Akperhe-Olomu.

His ascension follows the passing and successful burial rites of the 13th Ohworode, His Royal Majesty Macaulay Ovbagbedia, Uhurhie-Osadjere II, of the Uhurhie Ruling House. The late monarch, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, reigned briefly from May 20, 2023, until July 2025, marking the shortest tenure in the kingdom’s long history.

With the completion of all traditional processes, Akpomudje assumes the revered throne in accordance with the customs and succession traditions of the Olomu people.

The incoming monarch, a distinguished lawyer and Worldwide President of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA), hails from Akperhe-Olomu under the Eyavwien Ruling House.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Olomu Kingdom Traditional Council (OKTC), Olorogun John Ewenede, the people of Olomu invited the general public to witness the historic event, describing it as a moment of renewal and continuity for the kingdom.

As preparations intensify across Olomu communities, the atmosphere is filled with excitement drums, dances, and decorations herald the royal coronation, as indigenes and guests eagerly await the procession that will usher in a new chapter in the kingdom’s storied legacy.
