President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, September 4, 2025, departed Abuja to begin his annual leave, which will take the form of a working vacation in Europe.

A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the vacation will last 10 working days, during which the President will spend time in France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria.

According to the statement, the leave is part of the President’s official schedule and will combine rest with work-related engagements abroad.

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today, September 4, to commence a working vacation in Europe, as part of his 2025 annual leave. The vacation will last 10 working days. President Tinubu will spend the period between France and the UK and then return to the country,” the statement read.

This is President Tinubu’s first official vacation in 2025, coming after months of intense policy engagements and high-level governance activities at home.

However, the statement made no mention of whether the President transmitted a formal letter to the National Assembly, as required under Section 145(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to act in his absence. Both chambers of the Assembly are currently on recess.

Tinubu had embarked on a similar “working vacation” in October 2024, spending over two weeks in the UK and France without a formal handover to the Vice President.

Since assuming office, President Tinubu has undertaken several international trips, including visits to the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China, South Africa, Germany, Tanzania, and the United Arab Emirates, largely to woo foreign investors and strengthen bilateral ties.
