The appeal was made by Tantita’s Director of Operations during the 12th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), which opened on Wednesday, September 3, at MBB Events, Effurun, Delta State. The conference has as its theme: “Corruption, Governance and Media in Nigeria.”

Describing oil theft as one of the most devastating forms of corruption, the Tantita operations chief said the menace undermines governance, depletes national revenue, and stifles community development across the Niger Delta.

He noted that while government interventions and security deployments remain important, the role of communication professionals is equally vital in shaping public consciousness, exposing criminal networks, and amplifying the call for transparency in Nigeria’s oil sector.

"The media and communication scholars can serve as powerful allies in creating a cultural shift where acts of vandalism and crude theft are widely condemned,” he said.

Reviewing Tantita’s achievements, he disclosed that the company’s operations carried out in collaboration with security agencies and host communities had significantly reduced incidents of crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta. Sustaining these gains, he added, requires continuous awareness campaigns and advocacy led by communication experts.

He further commended ACSPN for stimulating intellectual debate on corruption, governance, and media, urging participants to broaden their research and public enlightenment efforts to include the dangers posed by oil theft.

The Tantita executive reaffirmed the company’s commitment to working with stakeholders to secure Nigeria’s oil assets, stressing that protecting the nation’s petroleum resources is in the collective interest of all citizens.
