BEDC should be held accountable,you endanger pregnant staff life, Group to Police

Following the arrest of a self-acclaimed human right activist, Comrade Victor Ojei a.k.a, WongBox by the Police for alleged assault occasioning harm, threat to life and threatening violence, a group, Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement (ISRCA) AKA “No Justice, No Peace” today probed into the four million (#4m) naira electricity bill which led to the BEDC disconnecting his light in the area. The group insisted that,"BEDC and its staff will also be held accountable for their unlawful actions and exploitation.

According to the group, "What electrical appliances is Victor Ojei reportedly using that resulted in an electricity bill of ₦4m, and was he notified prior to disconnection? 

ISRCA National Coordinator Comrade (Amb.) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen also wondered how true the BEDC Management assigned a pregnant woman to other staff for the purpose of disconnecting electricity which led to arrest of WongBox. 

In a statement sent to Our Correspondent in Warri, Comrade Agberen who blamed WongBox for his approach to the matter said,"this should not provide an opportunity for BEDC to make frivolous accusations, using the Delta State Command as a means to complicate the matter."

The group also said,"BEDC and its staff have a history of issuing inflated bills and estimated consumption charges to customers, potentially leading to customer dissatisfaction which also, can trigger violence.

"As the day unfolds, circumstances are pushing Nigerians to the extreme, but these issues are not being given the proper attention, and citizens often become victims in such situations. 

"I have had the pleasure of knowing Wongbox for some time, and I am aware of the situations he would avoid; it is unfortunate that he has been caught up in this circumstance. 

"Nevertheless, consideration should be given to Alternative Dispute Resolution in this matter."
