Illegal Clinic Shut Down in Udu, Delta State; Fake Doctor Arrested

The Delta State Government has sealed Blessed Gifted Clinic and Hospital in Udu Local Government Area for operating illegally without proper registration or qualified medical personnel.
The enforcement operation was led by the Executive Assistant on Health Monitoring to the Governor, Dr. Alexander Awunor, who stormed the facility located at No. 71 Orhuwhorun Road, Udu, alongside his team.
Findings revealed that the unregistered facility had for years paraded itself as a 24-hour hospital, boasting of emergency services, laboratory tests, and ultrasound scans, yet had no certified medical doctor or laboratory scientist. Instead, the centre was being operated by a woman identified as a Biochemist, who, shockingly, had been treating patients, conducting deliveries, and even performing surgical procedures for the past five years.
During the raid, officials made disturbing discoveries, including four infants under three months old kept in a room, raising suspicions that the clinic also functioned as a baby factory.
The operator, whose name has been withheld, was arrested while attempting to transfuse blood by bleeding a patient in a crude and unsafe manner. She is currently in custody at the Ovwian Division of the Nigeria Police.
The Warri Zone Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Bright Djebah, who accompanied the health monitoring team, disclosed that the woman had earlier been warned three months ago to shut down the illegal facility but defiantly ignored the directive.
Speaking with journalists, Dr. Awunor condemned the operator’s actions as dangerous and criminal, assuring that she will face prosecution. He further stressed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains deeply committed to safeguarding the health of Deltans, hence the directive to seal all illegal health centres across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious health facilities to the government, adding that diligent prosecution of offenders will serve as a deterrent to others.
