Gov. Oborevwori Appeals for Calm Amid Itsekiri–Urhobo Tensions in Warri

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has appealed for calm and restraint following reports of a brewing crisis between the Itsekiri and Urhobo communities in Warri South Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor urged residents and stakeholders in the oil-rich city to shun actions capable of disrupting the fragile peace and stability currently being enjoyed.
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalising infrastructure in Warri, stressing that sustained peace was critical to unlocking the city’s vast economic potential and consolidating ongoing development efforts.
"We appeal to all stakeholders to support our efforts in revitalising infrastructure in Warri and avoid all acts capable of truncating the current peace in the oil-rich city,”* the governor stated.
He called on community leaders, youth groups, and opinion moulders to work collectively in fostering unity, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic nationalities in Warri.
The governor also reiterated his administration’s determination to promote inclusive governance and equitable development across Delta State, while assuring that security agencies have been mobilised to maintain law and order in the area.
