Warri-Itakpe Train Service Grounded Over Technical Glitch, July 15 Trips Cancelled

NRC Engineers Working to Restore Service, Refunds and Rescheduling Offered
Passengers of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) faced unexpected disruption on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as the railway was grounded due to a major technical fault, prompting a full cancellation of scheduled services for the day.
The management of WITS, in a statement issued early Tuesday, confirmed the development and assured passengers that its engineering team is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore normal operations.
Passengers who wish to reschedule their journey will be provided with a platform to do so. Those who prefer a refund will be attended to immediately,” the statement read.
The incident came just hours after the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) had reassured the public that rail services would run uninterrupted during the public holiday declared by the Federal Government.
The unforeseen breakdown has left many passengers stranded at boarding stations across Delta, Edo, and Kogi States, with some expressing frustration over the timing and lack of advance notice.
It’s a holiday. I planned this trip days ago. Now I have to start looking for a bus,” said a stranded passenger at the Ujevwu Station in Warri.
The NRC and WITS management have called for calm and urged affected passengers to use official channels for refunds and rescheduling to avoid fraud.
