In a solemn tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Assembly has suspended all legislative proceedings and activities until Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

The announcement was made in an official statement issued on Monday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana. According to Ogunlana, the decision was jointly taken by the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“I am directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that all legislative activities in the National Assembly are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday, 22nd July, 2025,” the statement read.

Ogunlana added that the move is in honour of the former president’s legacy of national service, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the unity of Nigeria.

The leadership of both chambers extended heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian people, the government of Katsina State, and the Buhari family, including his wife and children.

Lawmakers have also been advised to adjust their personal schedules to allow full participation in the burial rites and national mourning activities for the late leader.

“Buhari will be remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity,” the statement concluded.
