The manager of Century Home Hotel in the Otokutu area of Delta State, Godwin Iboirode, has confessed to killing a female Point of Sale (PoS) operator identified simply as Bethel, following a dispute over a N10,000 transaction.
In a chilling confession captured on video and shared via the official X handle of the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, Iboirode admitted to luring Bethel to a bush behind the hotel, where he strangled her to death.
According to the police, Bethel had been declared missing since December 2024. Her disappearance remained unresolved until the arrest of Iboirode in March during a separate investigation into the murder of a Lagos-based pastor, Sunday Ogofotha, whose body was found buried within the hotel premises.
Ogofotha had traveled from Lagos to Delta to attend a family burial but was never seen again after lodging at the hotel. When his wife and relatives tried to locate him, the hotel management denied he ever stayed there, prompting a police investigation.
The probe led to the discovery of Ogofotha’s remains, secretly buried inside the hotel compound. During the arrest of Iboirode and other hotel staff — including the owner, Joseph Ogbole — police also recovered a PoS machine in the manager’s possession.
When questioned, Iboirode initially claimed the machine belonged to a female guest who forgot it. However, further investigation revealed that the PoS device belonged to Bethel, the woman reported missing months earlier.
In his recorded confession, Iboirode said he killed Bethel because she had accused him of defrauding her after he claimed to have transferred N10,000, which she insisted she never received.
“She went around spoiling my name, saying I scammed her,” he stated.
“I carried her into the bush. I strangled her and left her body there. I used her phone to demand ransom from her father.”
Police also revealed that Iboirode used Bethel’s phone to send a ransom message to her family, and later used the same strategy to contact the family of the slain pastor Ogofotha.
The gruesome discovery comes months after another unrelated incident in Ogun State, where Olamide Akinolu, a 30-year-old man, died under suspicious circumstances at Osas Hotel in Wadoye community, Ifo Local Government Area. Akinolu had gone to the hotel to meet someone he had paid to rent musical instruments before he was allegedly attacked by unidentified individuals.
The Ogun State Police Command had pledged to track down those involved in that case, which drew widespread attention over security lapses at hotels.
Reacting to the latest revelations, PPRO Bright Edafe stated that the Delta Police Command would ensure justice is served. He condemned the actions of the hotel staff and reiterated the need for hotels to adhere to proper guest registration and surveillance protocols.
“This is a clear case of premeditated murder, and we will ensure that everyone responsible faces the full weight of the law,” Edafe said.
Both Godwin Iboirode and the arrested hotel staff remain in custody as investigations continue.
