In a bid to combat unemployment and empower its vibrant youth population, the Delta State Government is actively urging eligible young men and women across the state to take full advantage of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing 89th Regular Recruits Intake (RRI) exercise. This opportunity, according to the state, not only promises gainful employment but also offers long-term career growth in the military and paramilitary sectors.

The call was made through the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services, encouraging qualified Delta youths to submit their applications online via the Nigerian Army recruitment portal: [https://recruitment.army.mil.ng]. The application window, which began on Monday, March 31, 2025, is scheduled to close on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Importantly, the application process is entirely free of charge.

To be eligible, applicants for Non-Trades positions must have a minimum of four credit passes in not more than two sittings in WASCE, GCE, NECO, or NABTEB. Meanwhile, candidates applying as Trades men and women must possess additional certification such as Trade Test or City & Guilds certificates. All applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, unmarried, and possess a National Identity Card or NIN slip, along with a valid birth certificate or age declaration approved by the National Population Commission.

Age and height requirements are clearly defined: applicants must be between 18 and 22 years for Non-Trades and not more than 26 years for Trades categories by June 30, 2025. The height threshold is 1.68 meters for males and 1.65 meters for females. Additionally, shortlisted candidates will be expected to meet strict medical, physical, and psychological standards in accordance with Nigerian Army protocols.

To ease access for shortlisted candidates, the Delta State Government will provide free transportation from designated pick-up points across the three senatorial districts to the screening venue. The screening exercise is scheduled to take place at the Cenotaph Complex, off Okpanam Road, Asaba, from Monday, June 2 to Monday, June 16, 2025, beginning at 7 a.m. daily.

The initiative is part of the state’s broader commitment to youth empowerment and national service. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, through the State Orientation and Communications Bureau, has called on local government chairmen, traditional rulers, clergymen, and leaders of faith-based institutions to mobilize eligible youths for participation. Successful candidates will enjoy paid, pensionable employment, potential university education, and structured career advancement through professional training provided by the Nigerian Army.
