Edo Governor suspends Agenebode Traditional Ruler over Kidnapping crisis

In a decisive move aimed at restoring peace and security in Edo State, Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has ordered the immediate and indefinite suspension of Dr. George Oshiapi Egabor, the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area.
The governor’s action follows a disturbing rise in kidnapping and killings within the traditional ruler’s domain, culminating in the recent murder of a palace chief, Late John Ikhamate.
“This administration has zero tolerance for insecurity,” Governor Okpebholo stated. “Any individual, regardless of status or title, who is found wanting or fails to ensure the safety of their people will be held accountable.”
In connection with the ongoing security investigations, Chief Peter Omiogbemhi, the suspended monarch’s secretary, has been arrested by law enforcement authorities.
The state government says the suspension is part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region and restore public confidence.
Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, confirmed the development in an official statement released Monday.
“The indefinite suspension takes immediate effect,” Itua said. “This measure is necessary as the government intensifies efforts to unravel those behind the heinous crimes plaguing Agenebode and its environs.”
The move has stirred reactions among residents, with many expressing hope that the government’s swift action will signal a turning point in the fight against insecurity in Etsako East and other affected parts of Edo State.
Security operatives have been deployed to the area as investigations continue.
