Delta Governor pledges Fair Resolution of Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja Crisis, vows More Development for Ijaw Communities

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured the people of Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West and Aladja in Udu Local Government Areas of a fair and peaceful resolution to their longstanding crisis. The governor commended both communities for heeding his call for peace and reaffirmed his commitment to impartiality while promising further development projects for the Ijaw nation.
Governor Oborevwori gave this assurance during a ‘thank you’ visit to Ijaw traditional rulers and political leaders at the Ugborikoko residence of the Pere of Ogulagha Kingdom and Chairman of the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers' Forum, Captain (Elder) Joseph Timiyen.
Expressing gratitude for the communities' restraint from violence, the governor praised their commitment to peace and emphasized that his administration remains focused on resolving the conflict without bias.
“I am deeply impressed that both communities embraced peace after my appeal. I assure you, I will handle this matter without sentiment, ensuring a fair and lasting resolution," Governor Oborevwori said.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted the unwavering support of the Ijaw people during the 2023 gubernatorial election, which contributed significantly to his victory. He described the Ijaw nation as peaceful, kind, and patient, adding that their loyalty to his administration has been steadfast.
“The Ijaw people have been incredibly supportive and patient with my administration. I am grateful for your love and commitment, and I promise to reciprocate through meaningful development projects,” he said.
He revealed that he delayed his post-election visit to the Ijaw communities to ensure significant contracts were awarded to the region.
“During the last State Executive Council meeting, we approved numerous projects for the Ijaw nation. I wanted to ensure I had something tangible to present before returning here,” He explained.
Responding to concerns raised by traditional rulers, Governor Oborevwori confirmed that the Ayakoromo Bridge project remains a priority and is currently under an Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) to guarantee its completion. He also announced the establishment of a model school in Gbaramatu to enhance educational opportunities in the region.
The governor further pledged to review other community concerns, including the need for improved infrastructure, electricity restoration, and expanded educational facilities.
During his visit, Governor Oborevwori extended condolences to the Ijaw nation over the passing of elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark stating that he would be deeply missed by all.
In His words, “I recently visited Kiagbodo to pay my respects. Pa Clark was a pillar of leadership and will be deeply missed”.
Captain (Elder) Joseph Timiyen, the Pere of Ogulagha Kingdom, who received the Governor and his entourage, expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit and reaffirmed the Ijaw nation’s continued support. He urged the state government to deploy more teachers to riverine communities to improve education qualities and standards.
Other traditional rulers also appealed for The establishment of tertiary institutions within Ijaw communities, Completion of the Ayakoromo Bridge, Construction of additional roads, Restoration of electricity to Isaba Kingdom and Fair resolution of the Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja crisis
In response, Governor Oborevwori assured them that his administration would carefully review these requests and work towards addressing the most critical needs.
Governor Oborevwori’s visit not only reaffirmed his commitment to peace and development but also strengthened ties with the Ijaw nation, signaling a future of collaboration and growth for Delta State.
