Labour Party Youth Leader slams Kenneth Okonkwo over Resignation letter

The National Youth Leader of the Labour Party (LP), Kenneth Ahanotu, has criticized former Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, over his recent resignation from the party.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News Day, Ahanotu condemned Okonkwo’s decision to publicly announce his resignation instead of following due process by addressing it to party leadership.

“This mere act of Okonkwo is a sign that he was never a member of the party because there are leaders in position to address in cases like this,” Ahanotu stated.

He described Okonkwo’s resignation letter as “baseless” and accused him of behaving like a “content creator” instead of a lawyer who should understand proper procedures.

Okonkwo’s resignation came amid ongoing leadership struggles within the Labour Party, which he cited as the primary reason for his departure. He claimed the party is not prepared for the 2027 general elections due to internal crises, legal battles, and what he described as the self-serving actions of former National Chairman Julius Abure.

In his resignation letter, Okonkwo stated: “My entrance to politics is for good governance, and I will continue to work for it to ensure that Nigeria becomes a great country of incorruptible men. This aim can no longer be realized within Labour Party as presently constituted.”

Okonkwo’s decision to go public with his resignation has fueled reactions, with Ahanotu insisting that the former campaign spokesperson was never fully committed to the party.

Meanwhile, Okonkwo maintains that his departure is based on principle, as he no longer sees the Labour Party as a viable platform for achieving good governance.

With Okonkwo’s resignation set to take effect on February 25, 2025, the fallout from his departure continues to raise questions about the Labour Party’s stability and preparedness for future elections.
