TOMPOLO APPLAUDS TINUBU FOR SIGNING MARITIME UNIVERSITY ACT
The Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief (Dr.) Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has praised President Bola Tinubu for signing the Act that establishes the Nigeria Maritime University in Okerenkoko, located in Warri Southwest Local Government Area of Delta State.
Tompolo, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation, also praised the principal officers of the National Assembly—including Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas—along with lawmakers from the South-South geopolitical zone for their efforts in facilitating the smooth passage of the bill establishing the Act.
In separate open letters to the President and the National Assembly, the former Niger Delta freedom fighter expressed gratitude for what he described as a “historic” signing, emphasizing that it has provided legal backing for the university’s operations.
In his message to the President, Tompolo stated: “Your approval of the 2025 Act has officially granted full legal backing to the institution. Since its establishment in 2014, the Nigeria Maritime University has struggled to reach its full potential due to the absence of an enabling Act. However, with your bold decision, the university can now flourish under a solid legal framework.”
Tompolo also conveyed the deep appreciation of His Majesty, Pere Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe Agadagba, along with the people of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, for this significant development.
Established in 2014, the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, has faced challenges in achieving its full potential due to inadequate funding and infrastructure.
