The Federal Government has approved a significant increase in the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, raising it from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000. The increment, which takes effect from February 2025, has been met with widespread relief and appreciation from corps members across the country.

Speaking on Thursday, January 30, NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, confirmed the development while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina. He assured them that the pay raise had been fully incorporated into the 2025 Federal Government budget.

“This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving ₦77,000 instead of the usual ₦33,000,” Ahmed stated.

He urged corps members to remain dedicated to national service, emphasizing that the allowance increase reflects the government’s commitment to youth welfare and empowerment.

Beyond financial support, Brigadier General Ahmed reassured corps members of the government’s unwavering commitment to their safety and well-being.

“We will not send our corps members to communities where there are security threats. Wherever we deploy them, they should be assured that the area is safe and secure for them to serve,” he affirmed.

The allowance increment comes amid ongoing discussions about youth empowerment and economic stability in Nigeria. Many corps members have welcomed the news, describing it as a major relief amid rising living costs.

The move aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to enhance the welfare of young graduates participating in the NYSC scheme, reinforcing its role in national development.
