In a moment of pride and recognition, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Dr. Sheriff Oborevwori has been named "Governor of the Year" by THISDAY and ARISE Media Group, a testament to his exemplary leadership, fiscal discipline, and commitment to infrastructural development.

While announcing the award, the Founder of THISDAY and ARISE Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, commended Governor Oborevwori for his exceptional achievements within just 18 months in office. He highlighted the governor’s impressive fiscal discipline, noting that despite not borrowing funds from any bank, he has continued to build infrastructure across the state.  

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was underrated, but in his 18 months in power, he has not borrowed a single cent and keeps building infrastructure across the state,” Obaigbena remarked.  

Receiving the award during a grand ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to THISDAY and ARISE Media Group for the honor, congratulating them on their 30th and 12th anniversaries, respectively. He dedicated the award to God and the people of Delta State, attributing his success to their unwavering support. “This recognition is a testament to our modest efforts in advancing Delta through the MORE Agenda,” the governor stated. “It will spur us to do even more for the people of Delta.”  

Presenting the award, former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, lauded the governor’s achievements, describing him as a visionary leader whose accomplishments have positively impacted every sector of Delta State's development.  

In his acceptance speech, Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to improving the lives of Deltans. “As a leader with grassroots credibility, we are focused on building infrastructure and simultaneously empowering our people. Infrastructure is vital, but so is ensuring that our people are not hungry. We are investing in agriculture, capacity building, and other sectors to create a balanced and thriving economy.”  

Looking ahead to 2025, Governor Oborevwori emphasized his administration's resolve to deepen efforts in fostering a peaceful and resilient Delta State.  “This award is not just a recognition of past efforts but a motivation to redouble our dedication to creating a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Delta for all,” he concluded.
