Bishop fatally stabbed while mediating marital dispute in Osun
A devastating tragedy has shaken Osogbo community in Osun State, Nigeria, as Bishop Shina Olaribigbe of Rapture Empowerment International was brutally murdered while attempting to resolve a marital conflict.
PEBNEWS reports that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at the residence of the quarrelling couple.
According to reports, the bishop, renowned for his efforts in mediating domestic disputes, had been invited by the wife to help resolve their ongoing marital issues. However, the estranged husband, fueled by jealousy and anger, arrived at the scene and mistakenly suspected the bishop of having an affair with his wife.
In a fit of rage, the husband attacked Bishop Olaribigbe with a knife, inflicting fatal stab wounds to his chest. Despite efforts to save him, the bishop succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving the community in shock and grief.
Osun State Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, speaking on the incident, said, “The couple was not living together, though they were not legally separated.”
“The pastor had been intervening in their quarrels, and on this occasion, he was at the wife’s house when the estranged husband arrived.”
The police have arrested the couple and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation. As news of the bishop's tragic demise spread, mourners flooded his social media pages with messages of condolence and disbelief.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, highlighting the dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts and the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms.
