Soldiers' presence wasn't invasion of Okpare-Olomu Community, Delta Council Declares

The Chairman, Ughelli South Local Government Council in Delta State,Hon. Lucky I. Avweromre PhD, (JP)on Sunday said, the presence of soldiers in Okpare-Olomu Community was not an invasion as widely reported by some sections of the media. 

This is contained in a statement signed by the Media Unit, Office of the Council, the Chairman. 

The Council boss pointed out that the soldiers were on their routine community to community monitoring (patrol of) Ughelli South Local Government Area. 

He denied allegation of the soldiers invasion of Okpare-Olomu Community Community. Hon. Avweromre said,"To say the military invaded  Okpare is untrue".

Hon. Avweromre said, the soldiers were in Okpare-Olomu to ensure compliance with the Local Government Chairman's order to postpone the community conference scheduled for December 26, 2024.

He noted that the conference was postponed due to a court-order  restraining and  prohibiting community's meetings pending court proceedings.

According to Hon. Avweromre :" The Ughelli South Local Government Council, led by Chairman Hon. Lucky I. Avweromre PhD, (JP), requested the postponement to maintain peace and stability in the community.

"The letter, signed by Ewenede J.A, Secretary to the Local Government,was addressed to the President General of Okpare Community and copied to various security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, Nigeria Police Force, and the Commanding Officer, 181 Amphibious Battalion, Agbor, Delta State.

"The presence of the security agencies, the Police, the NSCDC, the Army and the VGN was aimed at preventing any potential defiance of the Chairman's order and ensuring a peaceful resolution. 

"It's essential to correct the misleading information and provide an accurate account of the events."
