Eyewitnesses at the station described the situation as chaotic, with the crowd growing larger each day. Some passengers expressed concerns over the lack of immediate action to remedy  the situation .A few suggested that the problem might be due to the free nature of the train service, which could have led to less attention being given to its maintenance.

"It’s unfortunate that we’ve been stuck here for two days," one passenger said. "Maybe because the train is free, they don’t think it’s important to maintain it properly."

The free train service was announced as part of  special initiative by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The President had directed that trains should convey Nigerian citizens at no cost from December 20th to January 5th to help ease travel during the festive period. The initiative was well-received initially, with many citizens commending the government for its generosity.

However, the breakdown at Warri station has cast a shadow on the programme. Stranded passengers have called for urgent intervention to ensure the train is repaired and their journeys can continue.

As at the time of filing in this report, no official statement that has been released as  regards  the cause of the breakdown neither when the service will resume. Passengers are appealing to the authorities to prioritize the situation and provide assistance to those affected.

The free train service was intended to spread joy during the festive season, but for those stranded in Warri, it has become a source of stress and disappointment.
