Abia State Sets New Heights with Groundbreaking Ceremony for International Airport

Abia State made history as Governor Alex Otti led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia International Airport in Nsulu, a project poised to transform the state’s economy and infrastructure. The governor, joined by prominent figures, stakeholders, and community members, outlined the significance of the airport and its impact on the state’s future development.

Governor Otti, In his opening remarks,  expressed gratitude to the people of Abia State for their unwavering support and acknowledged the presence of distinguished guests at the event. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his steadfast backing of development initiatives in the state, emphasizing that the airport project symbolizes a leap forward in Abia’s infrastructural and economic transformation.

Addressing critics who questioned the necessity of the airport, the governor underscored its importance, highlighting its potential to Facilitate the importation and exportation of goods, Enhance Connectivity by Improving transportation for businesses and residents, Foster Economic Growth by driving  investments and create job opportunities, Promote Tourism by Position Abia as a destination for visitors and tourists ant to Strengthen the state’s role as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. “This airport is not just a project; it’s a gateway to Abia’s future prosperity,” Governor Otti stated. 

The governor also addressed concerns regarding the land acquisition for the project. He assured the public that his administration is committed to fairness and transparency, with plans already in motion to compensate rightful landowners. “We are a genuine administration that prioritizes the interests of our people. No one will be left behind in this transformational journey,” he said.

Governor Otti called on President Tinubu and the federal government to provide additional support for the successful execution of the airport project. He emphasized the potential for job creation, particularly for the youth, and the broader economic benefits for the state and the nation at large.

“This airport will not only serve Abia but will also position Nigeria as a key player in global commerce and transportation,” the governor remarked.

Chief Festus Keyamo Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development of Nigeria, who also spoke at the ceremony, praised the project’s transformative potential for Abia State. He commended the people of Nsulu, where the airport is located, for their cooperation and foresight, noting that they would be the primary beneficiaries of the development. The people of Nsulu should be the first to enjoy the benefits of employment and economic opportunities from this development,” Keyamo stated.

He further emphasized the airport’s role in boosting Abia’s business ecosystem, making it a center of trade and innovation both within and outside the country.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia International Airport is a bold step towards achieving Governor Otti’s vision of a modern, economically vibrant state. With its strategic focus on trade, transportation, and tourism, the project is expected to significantly enhance Abia’s economic standing and improve the quality of life for its residents.
