Tantita MD vows to overcome all challenges in anti-oil theft crusade
On the milestone in safeguarding Nigeria's oil sector, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria's oil and gas resources while celebrating significant progress in combating oil theft, vandalism, and illegal refineries.
At the recent organised dinner party, Tantita’s Managing Director, Engr. Kestin Pondi delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the company’s resolve to tackle challenges and secure the nation’s economic future.
Speaking at the event, Pondi reflected on the arduous journey to curb oil theft and related crimes in Nigeria. “This battle is more than a mission to protect Nigeria’s oil and gas resources—it is a commitment to securing the economic future of our nation,” he said.
The Tantita MD highlighted that the organization’s operations go beyond enforcement; they represent a broader national effort to restore integrity in the oil sector, ensure the country’s financial stability, and create a legacy of economic security.
According to Pondi, Nigeria’s oil sector faced an alarming crisis in 2022. Under the leadership of Mele Kyari at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), crude oil production had plummeted, with losses amounting to 36.69 million barrels and daily output hovering between 800,000 to 900,000 barrels. However, the collaboration with Tantita Security Services has produced extraordinary results. By November 2024, crude oil production rebounded significantly, achieving a 79% increase. Current figures show daily production exceeding 2 million barrels, a sharp contrast to the bleak statistics of two years ago.
Pondi detailed the accomplishments of Tantita’s operations, offering a glimpse into the scale of the challenges tackled. 3,963 incidents recorded, including 102 illegal pipeline connections, 971 theft-related cases, 1,784 illegal refineries shut down and 204 cases of sabotage, Seized assets 8 vessels, 3 tugboats, 6 barges, 117 vehicles, 52 tanker trucks, 47 speed boats, 7 motorcycles and tricycles and 4,743 wooden boats. These figures underscore Tantita’s relentless efforts to clamp down on oil theft and safeguard national resources.
Pondi expressed deep gratitude to the Nigerian Army, Police Force, Civil Defense Corps, Department of State Security Services (DSS), and Nigerian Navy for their unwavering support in the fight against oil theft. Their dedication and partnership have been instrumental in achieving these milestones.
He also paid tribute to the fallen heroes who lost their lives during these operations. “We honor their courage and sacrifice, which inspire us to press forward,” Pondi remarked. A moment of silence was observed in their memory.
The Tantita MD took the opportunity to recognize the commitment and resilience of the company’s team members. “Your courage and determination fuel our success,” he said. Pondi reminded attendees that teamwork and unity remain crucial to achieving future goals.
Looking ahead, he urged continued vigilance and dedication to securing Nigeria’s oil resources, describing the mission as not just a fight for oil and gas but a fight for the nation’s economic stability and prosperity.
Pondi closed his speech with a call for optimism and celebration. “Let us enjoy this evening as we celebrate our successes and the opportunities ahead,” he said. The event featured music, food, and fellowship as attendees reflected on Tantita’s milestones and envisioned a brighter future for Nigeria’s oil sector. “This celebration is for our fallen heroes, our courageous team, and every partner who has contributed to this journey,” Pondi concluded.
The gathering served as a reminder of the progress made and the collective determination to overcome future challenges, ensuring Nigeria’s oil sector continues to thrive.
