The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and security operatives have reportedly foiled an attempt by operatives of police force to take over the premises of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

It was gathered that the men in police uniform were also allegedly attempting to break into the RSIEC office to cart away valuables from the office before the governor and the security operatives arrived.

It was alleged that the police operatives from the state command and led by a top police officer had arrived the facility around 1:00am, in a bid to block the electoral office.

The move as gathered was to stop the RSIEC officials from gaining access into the facility, as well stop the proposed Local Government Area Council elections bided for tomorrow, Saturday.

The men in police uniform were said to have attempted to scale over the gates and strong room of the Commission to cart away sensitive Electoral materials meant for the election when he governor arrived.

A source privy to the development reveal that vigilant security official who were around the facility had alerted principal officers of the commission and relevant government authorities, who immediately informed the Governor of the development.

The Governor immediately led a team of government officials, lawmakers from the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, top political stakeholders, and other leaders to storm the facility.

However, loyalists of the governor including the Chief of Staff to the state government, Edison Ehie, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo, as well as State and National Assembly members, alongside other stakeholders, have taken over the facility.
