NUJ celebrates Adebayo as he institutes N10M Journalists welfare scheme
To show their gratitude for his philanthropic deeds and leadership, Members of NUJ Warri Correspondents Chapel Tuesday celebrated Veteran Journalist, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, just as he instituted a N10 million welfare scheme for Chapel members with donation of N1 million.
The event held at the Prestigious PEB Global Hotel, Jeddo, Delta State had Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Chairman NUJ Delta State Council and other leaders in attendance.
An elated Adebayo shocked members during his speech when he announced the setting up of a N10 million welfare.
The journalist cum serial Entrepreneur promised to use his contacts to realise the vision in order to cater for the welfare of members amidst the existing economic challenges.
He charged members of the Chapel to use their contacts to better lots of members of the journalism profession.
According to him, "I am thrilled that you people have decided to celebrate me, though I never thought of this until this moment.
"Whatever the contact a Journalist has, he should exploit it to favour members. Work with that person to achieve the purpose instead of envying one another.
"Right here, I am instituting a Journalist welfare scheme of N10 million with a donation of N1 million. I will mobilise my friends and well-wishers to raise the N10m target." He said
The Veteran said he was motivated into the Journalism profession by his late elder brother who was a Journalist but he came to Warri with a different approach of Journalism as he does not believe in collecting money from a client.
On her part, his wife, Mrs Dora Adebayo corroborated the husband by suing for love amongst members of the Union. She charged Journalists to believe in God to achieve success in life.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists Warri Correspondents' Chapel, Comrade Victor Okpomor expressed gratitude over what Comrade Adebayo has done for advancing Journalism profession in Warri, Delta in particular and Nigeria at large.
The Chairman thanked Adebayo for helping members of Warri Correspondents' Chapel in one way or the other. His words: "it is a day set aside to honour you."
Okpomor prayed God to bless him with good health and provide for him to enable him do more for the people.
He said, "I pray God to continue to bless you beyond your expectations to successfully drive this scheme that you have initiated."
