DG NOTAP commissions Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office in FUPRE
The Director General of National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Dr. Oby Amadiobi Esq has, over the weekend, commissioned the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office in the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun with the promise to ensure that the institution's 34 patents will be commercialised.
Amadiobi flanked by top officials of NOTAP made the promise during her lecture before commissioning the office.
Giving an overview of NOTAP's role in the promotion of Intellectual Property in Nigeria, the DG said that, they have the mandate to register technology transfer.
Amadiobi said that her office has helped over 300 patentees to commercialise their works. She congratulated FUPRE for having 34 patents.
"I say congratulations for having over 30 parents, now that you have our IPPIO, we expect that next year, you will double the numbers." She said.
Vice Chancellor of FUPRE, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh thanked the DG for the gift of the IPPIO and said that the institution has made some innovations that need to be commercialised.
Prof. Rim-Rukeh who was represented by Prof. (MRS.) Doris Ogeleka, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, noted that FUPRE is first of its kind in Nigeria and 6th in the world with four specialty Colleges.
According to her: "We have about 8,000 undergraduates, 1,000 postgraduates currently. We have 34 patents that we can brag about.
"We have challenges of power and technology transfer. We have made some innovations which need to be commercialised. We also have the electric car that needs to be mass-produced," she added.
High point of the occasion was the Commissioning and several training of staff on the creation, management and enforcement of Intellectual property rights.
