Peace-Building Efforts in Udu Kingdom: Okporua ruling House Elects Representatives to Udu Council of Chiefs

The Delta State Government, in line with the ongoing peace-building initiatives and the resolutions reached during the meeting that was held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Udu Kingdom Town Hall, the Okporua ruling house has successfully elected its representatives to the Udu Council of Chiefs. This election is part of the broader efforts to foster unity and development within Udu Kingdom.


The Okporua ruling house, one of the seven ruling houses in Udu Kingdom, comprises communities such as Ogbe-Udu, Okolor-Inland and Waterside, Ukpiovwin and Oghior. In adherence to the 1979 Edict, the ruling house conducted an election on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Ogbe-Udu Community Town Hall to select its four representatives to the Udu Council of Chiefs. The process, which was inclusive and transparent, was attended by the five Community Presidents , alongside women, youths, and other stakeholders from the Okporua ruling house.

The elected representatives which are Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, representing Oghior Community, Hon. Chief Andrew Orugbo representing Ogbe-Udu, Chief Godwin Jefia Notoma representing Ukpiovwin, Chief Peter Akunuhor Esiso representing Okolor-Inland and Waterside according to the 1979 Edict, this elected members of the ruling houses into the Udu Council of Chiefs automatically become High Chiefs.

In his remarks, following the election, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA, expressed his gratitude for the confidence reposed on him and the other elected members. He emphasized the importance of transparency and inclusiveness in the selection process and urged other ruling houses to conduct their elections in the same spirit.
