Future of Nigeria: Dickson Calls for Constitutional Reform
In two separate interviews within two days on National Television Political Programmes, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, PDP, Bayelsa West, has called for a reform of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senator Dickson explained that it was a national imperative for the country as it would address the current challenges faced within the country which are occasioned by the current constitution in use.
The lawmaker said the constitution does not convey the yearnings of the people as they were not consulted in its forming.
He affirmed that the 1999 constitution is a brainchild of the Military government which is undemocratic.
The former governor of Bayelsa State said the 1966 constitution takes away the rights of the people.
He said a constitution reform will pave the way for a productive society that will create an enabling environment for checks and balances against the abuse of power.
