A legal Practitioner, EMALSON A. AKPOTAIRE, ESQ has threatened legal action against the person of
COLLINS ORITSETIMEYIN EDEMA if he fails to retract the false and  defamatory publication against the person of Bar Eric Omare on Arise TV live on July 18, 2024 where he  featured on the programme termed: “Morning Show” from 10am to 10.30am.

In letter tilted: "False And  Defamatory Publication Against The  Person of ErIc Omare, ESQ.:  Demand For Urgent Retraction And  Publication Apology" which was  written by Emalson A. Akpotaire Esq., Counsel to Bar Eric Omare to Collins Oritsetimyin Edema  which was signed and made available to PebNews said, during the TV programme that  centred on  Supreme Court judgement which ordered fresh  delineation of electoral wards and units in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State anchored by Dr  Reuben Abati, Collins Edema allegedly attacked the personality of Eric Omare by saying that  Eric Omare's forefathers were domestic servants or customary tenants to the Itsekiris just as he allegedly said he is not a Legal Practitioner, which to him, were  false, malicious and unjustifiable  statements.

According to the letter, the content of the publication of Collins Edema which was brought his  attention  by his  family members, friends, professional colleagues, kinsmen, admirers, traditional and political leaders from all over Nigeria and abroad has generated lots of  calls adding such publication is not only  malicious, inciting, defamatory but  has lowered his reputation and high esteem before members of the public.

Part of the letter reads:"
The content of your publication was brought to the attention of our Client by family members, friends, professional colleagues, kinsmen, admirers...

"Our Client and his forefathers were never domestic servants, slaves or customary tenants to the Itsekiris at any point in time or history.  Your false and libellous publication has injured our Client’s personal image and that of his family.

"Members of the larger Omare family who are professionals, politicians, businessmen, career civil servants and in other endeavours have been receiving calls from friends and colleagues from all over the world and they have subjected to public opprobrium and treated with utter disdain".

According to the statement, Barr. Eric Omare's reputation as a legal practitioner was questioned whereas he was Nigerian Bar in November, 2006 with Supreme Court No SCN050157).
The letter therefore asked Collins Edema to retract the publication and tender unreserved public apology on Arise Television “Morning Show” programme within the period of 10am to 10.30 am just as he would make publication of his  apology  in three national newspapers within one week of the receipt of this letter adding that  the draft  copy of the said apology must be sent to them  for approval before publication.

The letter said, failure for Collins Edema to retract the publication, he (Akpotaire) has no choice but to seek legal redress against him(Edema) in court to protect his(Eric Omare's) hard-earned reputation and claim damages against him.

Part of the letter reads:"TAKE NOTICE that should you fail to comply with the above demands, our Client would have no other option than to seek legal redress against you in court to protect his hard-earned reputation and shall be asking for punitive and exemplary damages against you".
