My Administration would ensure Quality Policy in Education says Gov. Oborevwori
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon.Sheriff Oborewori said his administration’s policy in education in the state is to ensure that quality education operates in safe and supportive environment. Governor Oborevwori stated this on Friday (yesterday) during the swearing-in and inauguration of newly appointed Chairmen and members of parastatals ,agencies and Governing Councils of government institutions in Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
In a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by Patrick Ijeh, Deputy Director, Ceremonials, Information, and Public Relations, Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria, said Governor Oborevwori charged the Governing Council of Delta State University, Abraka, to consistently pursue innovation to enhance the institution's curricula in order to elevate the standards of teaching and learning which would ultimately pave way for quality graduates.
His words: ”The primary focus of my administration's policy in the education sector is to ensure the provision of the highest quality education within a safe and supportive environment”.
According to Governor Oborevwori, there is need to continuously improve on the curricula of educational institutions in the state to be at par with global standards as this would enable students acquire critical thinking, entrepreneurial, leadership and social skills as well as imbibe the culture of team work. He said, to achieve these goals, Delta State University and other higher institutions in the state must integrate theory and practice through multidisciplinary research to tackle the complex challenges of an increasingly diverse technology-driven society and proffer real time solutions to issues of urban decay, potable water supply, alternative energy sources, public transport network as well as waste management and treatment.
Governor Oborevwori also charged the Governing Council of the higher institutions to entrench the culture of maintenance of school infrastructure and property adding that, the state government is committing a lot of resources to create conducive teaching and learning environments for both staff and students in the institutions saying that, such gesture should be reciprocated by proper maintenance to curb wastage.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the Chairman, Governing Council of Delta State University, Abraka, Gen. Alexander Odeareduo Ogomudia (Rtd), expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for the opportunity given him to serve just as he promised that they would do their best to pursue and consolidate on the achievements of the MORE.Agenda of the Delta State Government in their different agencies and institutions.
The ceremony featured the oath-taking of the Chairman and a Commissioner in the Delta State Service Commission, pledge of allegiance by the new Auditor-General of Local Governments and inauguration of Governing Councils of Delta State University, Abraka, College of Physical Education, Mosogar; Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Delta State Polytechnic, Burutu and Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku as well as boards of Delta State Investment and Development Agency (DIDA), Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (DEMSMA), Delta State Trust Mortgage Bank Limited and UICD.
The ceremony was witnessed by other members of the Governing Council of Delta State University whose tenures are still running, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Andy Ogochukwu Egwunyenga and Principal Officers of the university.
