Hardship: Release nine arrested aged women, Right Activist, Israel Joe urges Delta CP, Olufemi
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi has been urged to release nine aged women who were allegedly arrested by the police for protesting against the arrest of human right activist, Comrade Israel Joe by soldiers from the Nigerian Army 3 Battalion, Effurun before he was subsequently handed over to the Police for prosecution.
The aged women were arrested for demanding the immediate release of the human right activist at Jakpa junction in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Friday, it was learnt.
Comrade Joe made the call in a statement signed and made available to PEBNEWS Correspondent in Warri.
He said the women had been in Police cell at Ekpan Police Division since Friday, February 23.
"What are their offences outside peacefully protesting for a better future of their children and society?"
According to Comrade Joe, "I wish to convene my dissatisfaction with your agency for the staggering abnormalities you have made of yourself, in a quest to gag Nigerians to a corner for genuinely dramatising their fundamental right, to air out their grievances in the face of injustice, hunger, poverty and economic hardship."
While noting that the Delta State Command promised to look into the matter with a view to release the women, Comrade Joe said,"We have entered day 4, they are still being detained with no reasons other than seeking justice for society.
"I humbly wish to remind the Police Force that, we are all in this hardship together. At your retirement, you would come back to society to join us in the mess you willfully allowed back in service."
