The Police Service Commission (PSC) has sanctioned 42 police officers over misconduct, approving the dismissal of three senior officers and the demotion of 16 others.

Twenty-one officers received severe reprimands, while two were issued ordinary reprimands. Three others were exonerated, and some previously suspended officers were reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force.

The decisions were reached during the Commission’s plenary meeting chaired by its Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd.), at its headquarters in Abuja.

Argungu reaffirmed the PSC’s zero tolerance for corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of police misconduct.

He also assured Nigerians of the Commission’s commitment to speeding up the resolution of disciplinary cases.

The PSC commended its Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, chaired by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.), and other board members for their contributions to reviewing the cases and appeals.

According to the Commission, the cases underwent departmental, committee and plenary reviews before the decisions were finalised.
