Sanwo-Olu Assures Lagos of Tight Security Ahead of Tinubu’s Visit

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents and visitors of strengthened security as the state prepares to host President Bola Tinubu and receive an influx of visitors during the festive period.

Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a security council meeting with security chiefs at the State House, Marina.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor was briefed on security activities and plans to strengthen the system ahead of the end-of-year events.

Sanwo-Olu said the state government would continue to take measures to prevent criminal activities and protect residents and visitors.

“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor said.

Omotoso said the meeting was held as Lagos prepares for heightened activities, including President Tinubu’s visit and the expected influx of visitors during the Yuletide.

The commissioner also listed religious, cultural and political activities among events expected to take place across the state as activities build towards the festive season and the 2027 general elections.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria through Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, after a four-week working vacation in Europe. He is also expected to remain in Lagos through October 1 to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. 

Those at the security meeting included the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan.

Also present were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro.

The governor’s meeting with security chiefs comes amid preparations for increased movement and activities associated with the festive period, alongside political, religious and cultural events across Lagos.
