Delta govt suspends work commissioner indefinitely over alleged assault at PTI

The Delta State Government has suspended Hon. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben, Commissioner for Works, Highways and Urban Roads, indefinitely with immediate effect.

The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, on Monday.

According to the statement, the suspension is to allow security agencies to conduct an "unbiased investigation" into allegations linking the Commissioner to an assault on Mr. Simon Mudi, also known as "Temple," Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, at the Petroleum Training Institute, PTI, Effurun, recently.

“The State Government remains committed to the maintenance of public safety in all circumstances, which guarantees law and order and the sanctity of lives. This position is upheld even when institutions of state are involved,” the statement read.

The government did not provide further details on the incident at PTI.

Hon. Izeze’s suspension takes effect immediately pending the outcome of the investigation by relevant security agencies.

The Ministry of Works, Highways and Urban Roads is expected to continue operations under the supervision of the Governor’s office until further directive.
