Just In: Court declares Ereyitomi as APC candidate for Warri federal constituency
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has affirmed Rt. Hon. Chief Thomas Ereyitomi as the duly nominated candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Warri Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
Justice Umar, in his judgment delivered on Thursday August 6, dismissed the suit filed by fellow aspirant, Mr. Ekpoto Emmanuel Ekpoto, challenging Ereyitomi’s candidacy.
Ekpoto had approached the court seeking to nullify Ereyitomi’s victory in the APC primaries, alleging that the incumbent lawmaker holds dual membership of both the APC and the NDC.
In its ruling, the court held that it would not interfere in the internal affairs of a political party, including membership issues.
Justice Umar noted that both parties agreed the APC screening committee cleared Ereyitomi to contest the primaries. He pointed out that the court lacked jurisdiction to delve into the party’s decision, as that would amount to interference in internal party matters.
Ereyitomi currently represents Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and also chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Training Development Fund, PTDF
