The Moon and the Agbani Darego of this Wide World
By: Enewaridideke Ekanpou
There was night, dark as charcoal from Timiebi's hearth;
There was night, as stubborn as anthills occupying Timiebi's farm in Akparemogbene;
There was night, impenetrable as the luminous crude oil sailing in the Warri River.
The moon quickened his pace from the invading darkness, protective of his own invading radiance.
Women gracefully thin and beautiful, moulded like Agbani Darego of Nigeria, were seen gallivanting.
Frolicsome weaver-birds chirping and feasting on ripe 'agere' fruits,
so were the Agbanis.
Upon the moon and the invading darkness gazes multiplied and steadied like rays of the sun.
Among the cavorting Agbanis full of gazes, only one saw the geometry of the moon.
The other Agbanis saw in the invading darkness the consuming power of a python.
The discerning Agbani traced the moon's orbit and followed the orbit, unhesitant like a ratel.
Of the moon and the discerning Agbani, their story shall be told forever like Tompolo's legend in the Niger Delta.
This story is the lodestar for women whose priority is the aroma of wealth from a man searching for true love like Barrister Smooth;
For a true love sought, only the discerning Agbani shall be found by the likes of Barrister Smooth...
