Right Activist, Efemena Commends Police for Foiling Cult Initiation, Arrest of 25 Suspected Cultists in Delta Hotel
A human right activist, Comrade (Dr.) Umukoro Efemena a.k.a, Akima today commended the Delta State Police Command for foiling an alleged cult initiation as well as arrest twenty five suspected cultists in the early hours of June 16 in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It has been widely reported that,two suspected cultists were seriously wounded in a gunfire with Operatives of the Delta State Police Command's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with the Anti-Cult) Group.
Efemena said,"The Delta State Police Command is very proactive. I commend them especially the leader of the Anti-Cult, DSP Julius Robinson and his men for their bravery in foiling the cult initiation."
According to him,"They were able to arrest the cultists after a serious exchange of gunfire. They recovered 1 cut-to-size gun and 1 pump action. They(cultists) were there initiating new members especially young boys/teenagers into cult."
Efemena said the incident calls for a thorough investigation as well as the arrest of the Chief Executive Officer,CEO of Mamu Hotel, where the alleged cult initiation held.
He said,"The hotel management is fully involve in this crime."
While noting that the fight against crime must go beyond arresting the perpetrators,Efemena insisted that"Any individual or business found to have enabled or harbored criminal activities must also be investigated and prosecuted."
He added that,"If evidence confirms wrongdoing, the CEO of Mamus Hotel and all those involved should face the full weight of the law.
"Crime thrives where there is support. Justice must reach everyone involved."
Yesterday, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer,SP Bright Edafe confirmed the report and arrest of the 25 suspected cultists with the recovery of one(1) pump action short gun and one cut-to-size.
The Police Image maker noted that others escaped from the scene of incident as pointed out that the l suspects were allegedly linked to recent killings in Agbarho Community.
According to SP Edafe,"Acting on credible intelligence in the early hours of 16 June 2026, operatives of the Command's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) stormed a suspected cult initiation ground at Agbarho following intelligence that members of the Eiye Confraternity allegedly linked to recent cult-related killings in Agbor were planning further acts of violence and the initiation of new members."
He said,"Upon arrival at the location, the operatives came under gunfire from some of the suspects. The police team responded professionally during which two of the suspects sustained gun shot injuries."
He explained that,"The operation resulted in the arrest of twenty-five (25) suspects, while several others fled the scene.
"Exhibits recovered during the operation include one (1) pump-action shotgun and one (1) cut-to-size firearm."
SP Edafe noted that,"The injured suspects are receiving medical treatment."
He also said," Investigation is ongoing."
