2027 Elections: Warri Federal Constituency Gains 2 Extra Assembly Seats After INEC Delineation
Warri Federal Constituency will elect six members into the Delta State House of Assembly in 2027, up from four, following the implementation of INEC's fresh delineation exercise.
Indigenous Ijaw and Urhobo leaders in Warri announced this Sunday during a joint press briefing at KFT, Warri, where they also briefed journalists on their June 11 meeting with President Bola Tinubu over the Supreme Court-ordered delineation.
According to the leaders, INEC’s May 20, 2026 report created one additional state constituency each in Warri North and Warri South West Local Government Areas.
The new breakdown for 2027 is:
Warri North LGA: 2 state constituencies
Warri South West LGA: 2 state constituencies
Warri South LGA: 2 state constituencies
Total: 6 Assembly seats for Warri Federal Constituency
Previously, the three LGAs produced 4 seats combined. The increase means Warri North and Warri South West will each now have two representatives in the Delta House of Assembly.
The leaders said President Tinubu convened an emergency meeting at the Presidential Villa on June 11 after weeks of protests and agitation by Ijaw and Urhobo groups demanding implementation of the May 20 report.
They described the creation of the additional seats as a step toward fair representation for communities in the oil-rich but long-marginalized area.
While hailing INEC’s implementation, the leaders warned that any delay or further alteration to the report could erode public trust and heighten tensions ahead of 2027.
“Any further delay or attempt to alter the delineation report could undermine confidence in the process and heighten tensions in the area,” they said.
The Supreme Court had in 2022 ordered INEC to conduct a fresh delineation of wards and polling units in Warri Federal Constituency to reflect current realities and ensure equitable representation.
