Lagos police move to calm fears over alleged school attack threat
The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents that there is no intelligence suggesting that schools in the state are under any imminent threat, following the circulation of a notice warning of a planned attack by suspected bandits.
Concern had spread after reports emerged of a message allegedly posted within a school environment, claiming that armed groups were plotting to invade schools and abduct pupils. The development triggered anxiety among parents and guardians across parts of the state.
Addressing the situation on Monday, in a statement shared on X, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, said the command was aware of the report but urged parents, guardians, school authorities and residents not to panic.
“There is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State. While every security concern is treated seriously, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic,” the statement read.
As part of precautionary measures, Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai has directed an immediate review of the security situation and ordered the strengthening of police presence around schools and other sensitive locations across Lagos.
The command further disclosed that security personnel have been deployed in collaboration with other agencies to protect educational institutions, key infrastructure and residential communities, noting that surveillance and monitoring efforts have also been intensified.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the police maintained that Lagos remains secure and warned that any attempt by criminal elements to create fear or disrupt public order would be met with decisive action.
