Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Basil Okoloboawei Ganagana has clinched the All Progressives Congress [APC] ticket for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, defeating longtime lawmaker Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu in a decisive primary election.

The returning officer declared Ganagana winner after he polled 14,632 votes across the two local government areas. Mutu, who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives for 28 years, garnered 1,093 votes.

The results showed a wide margin of victory:
Basil Ganagana: 10,329 votes in Bomadi, 4,303 votes in Patani — total 14,632
Nicholas Mutu: 701 votes in Bomadi, 392 votes in Patani — total 1,093

The landslide win marks the end of Mutu’s uninterrupted run in the Green Chamber since 1999 and signals a shift in the political landscape of the federal constituency.

Ganagana’s victory positions him as the APC flagbearer for the 2027 general election, where he will seek to represent Bomadi and Patani at the National Assembly.
