DTHA 2027: Opuoru officially declares intention to contest Warri South Constituency II seat,vow to reclaim mandate
The Senior Special Assistant,SSA(Environment) to the Governor,Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru officially declared his intention to contest the Warri South Constituency II seat into the Delta State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Opuoru who spoke at the official declaration held in Otor-Orere, Okere-Urhobo Community in Warri South Local Government Area vowed to reclaim his stolen mandate from whoever is currently enjoying it. "This time around, we shall do better than what we did before and the mandate, we are bringing it back. All these talk of consensus, governor did say so."
Opuoru who is also the Eni of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom said the APC has said it will conduct the Primary election with "direct primary" format.
Opuoru challenged his political rivals in the contest to come outside and test their popularity with the APC Primary election. According to him, "If anybody is thinking they will come and walk into the House of Assembly, that's a lie."
"We are going to the field, we will vote and it's by direct primaries that we will do so that all of you will be empowered.
"I did it before. You go to all these schools, Essi College, Pessu,Okere Ward, Ighogbadu primary school, I construct buildings, classrooms when I was House of Assembly member and we are going to to it again.
"21st of this month is the primaries. You all should note that date in your calendars. We want to answer our Papa names."
Opuoru also Expressed confidence of winning the primary election through the direct primary with the backing and support of the Warri APC leaders
Meanwhile, the Warri APC leaders have sent a very strong message to the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori saying,"We don't need consensus. All we want is "direct primary".
They stressed that Governor Oborevwori should allow direct primary and let whoever wins, win.
Prof.(Chief) Israel Abido from Agbarha-Warri Kingdom who spoke said all the APC Warri leaders want is a "direct primary" and not a "consensus" as being claimed by some persons that they have been given consensus ticket by him Oborevwori to run for the seat.
A leader of APC Okere Ward, Amah Agbajoh said commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for their developmental works in the Country and Delta State respectively.
While noting that Hon. Opuoru has held several political position in the State, Agbajoh said,It's a pity he lost he lost the last election under the platform of the People's Democratic Party,PDP.
He also pointed out that the people who voted for the current member representing the people of the Constituency are pains because of the mistakes they made two(2) years ago stressing that they're here to correct the error.
According to him,"Matthew empowered alot of persons in his time. The windows he was giving N5,000 monthly stipends,50person per ward without Constituency project. The difference is clear."
Agbajoh said the Governor should allow all aspiranst to go to the field and slug it politically through direct primary and not by consensus.
"Consensus means selection. We all have decided. I believe my people will support Opuoru. This support is organic."
Chief Dickson Obirenfoju a.k.a, Agbakara from APC Ward 10 who spoke in Pidgin english also said,"We not want consensus. Let the candidate win. Nobody should lie with the governor's name say him be consensus candidate."
Kingsley Egbe from APC Pessu Ward 7 and Jerry Atiene also said there's no consensus anywhere as they urged the Governor to give room for direct primary.
Egbe also vowed that the people of APC Pessu Ward 7 will give their support as well as vote enmass for Hon. Poko Opuoru saying,"We have agreed to support and vote Opuoru" to continue his good works in Warri South Constituency II.
Atiene said the current member should come to and test his popularity in the field through the direct primary and not hide under the shadows lying with the name of the Governor that he had been given a consensus ticket to go back to the house.
Dexlaring his intentions to contests the Warri South Constituency II seat,Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru gave his stewards saying,when he was in the house he contributed to the development of Warri South Constituency with infrastructural and financial supports to education in the area.
According to him,"All the school, Ighogbadu primary school, Pessu primary, Essi College, and others, I built classrooms and bought chairs and desk. I will do more if I go back to the house.
"Am here to officially declare my intentions to contest the Warri South Constituency II seat of the Delta State House of Assembly."
He also promised to empower the women and youths more than ever before if given the needed supports.
