The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the death of three police officers following a deadly attack on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo Village, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, 2026, was confirmed in a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, through the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

Adekimi said he received the report of the attack with “profound shock and deep sorrow,” describing the incident as a heinous and cowardly act.

“I have received with profound shock and deep sorrow the report of a deadly attack on the PMF Camp at Tenebo Village, Kaiama LGA, which occurred in the early hours of today, 2nd May, 2026,” the commissioner stated.

He said the attack claimed the lives of three officers while several others sustained critical injuries.

“This heinous and cowardly act, which claimed the lives of three gallant police officers and left several others critically injured, is strongly condemned in its entirety.

“The fallen officers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, bravely standing to defend the safety and security of our communities. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he added.

The police boss extended condolences to the families of the deceased officers and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured personnel.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officers during this moment of immense grief. I also pray for the swift recovery of the injured personnel currently receiving treatment,” he said.

He assured residents that the Command would deploy all available resources to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“I want to assure the good people of Kwara State that we will deploy all available operational, intelligence, and tactical resources to ensure that the perpetrators of this barbaric attack are tracked down and brought to justice. There will be no hiding place for those responsible,” Adekimi said.

Residents had reportedly fled their homes during the attack amid heavy gunfire, as the assailants stormed the PMF camp in a surprise operation.

Meanwhile, the commissioner also announced a breakthrough in the Command’s anti-kidnapping operations with the arrest of six suspected kidnappers in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation triggered by the abduction of one Isaq J. of Boriya Village via Okuta on April 23, 2026.

He said the suspects had demanded a ransom of ₦50 million, but sustained pressure from police operatives led to the eventual release of the victim.

“The suspects had demanded a ransom of Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000). Upon receipt of the report, we immediately activated a coordinated manhunt and mounted sustained operational pressure on the criminal elements, which led to the eventual release of the victim,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that one Mohammed Shede was arrested and confessed to providing intelligence to the kidnappers.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to providing actionable intelligence to members of the gang identified as ‘Smalley’ and ‘Borugujo,’ which facilitated the tracking and abduction of the victim at his farm,” he explained.

Further investigations, he said, led to the arrest of additional suspects including the gang’s armourer.

“Further investigations led to the arrest of Abubakar Aliu, identified as the gang’s armourer, alongside Abu Sonkpia, Saliu Yakubu, and Sanni Sakariyau, all of Boriya Village,” he said.

He added that the suspects also confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping and an armed robbery attack on one Muhammed Manu, also of the same community.

The commissioner said exhibits recovered from the suspects included firearms and mobile phones, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, including ‘Smalley’ and ‘Borugujo,’ along with two additional accomplices currently at large,” he said.

He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to aid ongoing security operations across the state.
