Operatives of the Ogun State Police command have arrested no fewer than 146 suspects in a sweeping, intelligence-driven security operation carried out in Sagamu area of the State.

The operation, code named “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe,” was executed in the early hours of Sunday, by the Sagamu Area Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the coordinated raid followed a series of strategic engagements with traditional rulers, the Sagamu local government and heads of security agencies aimed at strengthening security architecture in the area.

Babaseyi explained that the operation targeted identified criminal flashpoints where suspected hoodlums had been posing threats to public peace and safety.

“This intelligence-led operation was designed to forestall any breakdown of law and order and reinforce public safety across Sagamu and neighbouring communities,” he said.

He disclosed that the exercise was jointly carried out by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

“The synergy among the various security agencies underscores a unified and proactive approach to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents,” Babaseyi added.

The police spokesman disclosed that the suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their level of involvement in criminal activities.

“Those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and possible prosecution,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and discipline displayed by the participating agencies, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-led policing.

“We remain resolute in our efforts to sustain peace and security across Ogun State. Residents are assured that such operations will continue as part of strategies to keep communities safe,” the CP said.

While urging the residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through designated emergency lines, Ojajuni reiterated that community partnership remains vital in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the state.
