Eid-el-Fitr: Be united, shun religious intolerance, Etsu-Nupe of Warri urges Nigerians
The Etsu-Nupe of Warri and environs, Zuberu Mohammed Tajudeen, has called on Nigerians to embrace unity and shun religious intolerance for the peace and progress of the country.
The traditional ruler made the appeal on Friday in Warri during an interview with journalists as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Tajudeen stressed the importance of love and peaceful coexistence among citizens, regardless of religious differences.
“Muslim religion is a religion of peace which teaches peace to every individual that we should love one another. That we should keep ourselves to the Will of God Almighty. That whatever we are doing, we should remember that there’s God,” he said.
Speaking on the significance of the celebration, he noted that Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of the Ramadan fast and a time for reflection and unity among adherents.
“So, Eid-el-Fitr has come after the end of the fasting, all of us are going to celebrate it at the playground today. Today is a day that will mark the end of our fasting which we need to tell our people that they should continue to love one another,” he added.
The monarch emphasised that the lessons of the fasting period should translate into better relationships and adherence to moral values.
“For you to do fasting for thirty (30) days, and today you’re celebrating, you should love one another. We should keep the commandments of God as a good Muslim. Even if you’re not a good Muslim, you are supposed to keep the ten (10) commandments of God because it’s written in the Bible in Exodus 20:2-11. All these things that God says we should follow, we should do it and love each other and get the glory of God at the end,” he said.
He reiterated that unity, tolerance, and obedience to God’s teachings remain essential for national harmony and development.
